In 2013, I got my first big television job on a comedy programme. It involved early morning starts in posh cars that arrived at my house and dropped me off home. Shoots on beaches in -2 degree cold wearing clothes that indicated we were in the height of summer. CATERING. It was heavenly.

I eagerly anticipated the air date, and could barely contain myself when it arrived. Watching it was a truly unique experience; still knowing what line came next after so long, remembering the laughs we had had just before specific scenes took place, feeling such gratitude for the privilege of being one of the few who knew what the opposite side of the camera - all scribbles of wires and spindly tripods and huddled camaraderie - looked like. When the credits rolled, mum called.

‘What did you think? Was it funny?’ I asked.

‘Oh Rebecca,’ she responded, ‘You did look tired.’

Ever since that day my main struggle in life has been to find an eye cream, any eye cream, that will rid me of this god damn baggy burden. And let me tell you, the struggle is real.

I’ve gone cheap I’ve gone pricey I’ve researched cosmetic surgery I’ve gone vegan I’ve tried sleeping I’ve tried not sleeping as much and I’ve paid £15 on top of every facial I’ve ever had to include a ‘soothing eye treatment’.

And I think I’ve finally cracked it.

Sisley’s gel is brilliant. For a start it’s fun because it’s completely transparent and glassy and looks exactly like lube but is much thicker. When you apply it to your under eye area it really does give the impression something is being stretched out. I’m a big fan of a product that makes you feel like it’s working hard. Even if it’s not true the effort is appreciated.

I’ve been having a hard time of late and have every right to have bags the size and colour of the IKEA industrial ones they sell at the checkouts. But I don’t. They look better than they did when I actually had a home to live in and a proper bed to sleep in.

Who’s laughing now mum.
